Find a Web page that originated outside of Maine and that you find
well-designed and attractive.
Download a copy of the page you have chosen, and make the following
changes:
Change the background color or image to something different.
Change any corporate name to a fictional one. Also delete any
corporate logos or other corporate symbols (so that you
aren't violating any copyright laws), and delete anything
else that says it's copyrighted or that you think
is copyrighted (including the copyright notice itself).
Add a link containing an <A Href="Mailto:...."> feature,
filling in your own E-mail address. Please delete any links
that use this feature to send mail to any other E-mail address.
At or near the top, put your own name and the words "Practical
Exam" in a two-line, centered, boldface heading, in one of the
following colors (whichever contrasts best with your background):
#7FFF22 (fluorescent green),
#762200 (chocolate),
#E820E4 (light magenta),
#22228E (navy).
Just below this, add the following disclaimer in either RED or YELLOW
lettering: "This is a class exercise for educational purposes, and
therefore constitutes 'fair use' in the context of copyright law."
Below this, add a cluster of at least four photographic images,
one of which must feature a building, and one of which must feature
an animal that is not domesticated (the remainder can be about
anything).
Also add, near the bottom, an unordered list of these web links:
a link to your home page
a link to the original page that you downloaded to
start this exercise
a link to the syllabus of a college course dealing with
the history of a single country other than the United States,
covering the period 1700-1750 (or extending either earlier
or later or both, as long as the period from 1700-1750 is
included).
a link to a site describing the largest Chateau in the
Loire Valley, constructed by François I,
decorated with salamanders.
a link to the web site of an Internet café
somewhere in either Mongolia, Zimbabwe, or Uzbekistan.
a link to a description of a restaurant (more than
just a bar or cafe) in the same city as the Internet
cafe in the previous item.
a link to the web site of a private elementary school for
academically gifted children in either Massachusetts or
New Mexico.
a link to the web site of a house of worship (any faith)
somewhere in Queensland, Australia.
any two of the following additional links:
a site that gives advice about pest control
for banana growers, or
a site describing installation of an adaptive device
(or modification of the car itself) to allow an amputee
(or someone with paralyzed feet) to operate the foot
pedals of a car by hand.
a sit-down restaurant (not fast food)
in Phoenix AZ that lists its menu on the Internet.
a link to a site with information about a memorial
statue to one or more animals.
a link to a bus schedule between Denver CO and
Albuquerque NM.
a link to a site giving information on any rare
disease (one that affects fewer than 1 person in 10,000,
i.e., fewer than 25,000 Americans, or fewer than
half a million people worldwide).
Upload this newly modified page to a place in your Web site.
On your home page, add a clickable "hot" link to the new page
you have just added.
To complete the assignment, send me E-mail giving the URL's
for both the new page (uploaded in step C) and your home page
(as modified in step D).
This assignment is due at 10 p.m. on Monday, July 7.
